Miss Hong Kong Pageant 2021 (2021香港小姐競選) has just been concluded. Congratulations to the winners. When heavy favorites Fiona Dai (戴佳敏) and Anna Wang (王嫿嫿) were eliminated in the semifinals, it was an indication that fluency in Cantonese is a prerequisite for this pageant. So, communication is the key. Sabina Mendes 宋宛穎 already have good chance.
However in recent years, TVB seems to favor mixed contestants who are fluent in English, but not so in Cantonese, than those who are fluent in Mandarin, but not so in Cantonese. I cannot understand the reason.
The overall performance by the contestants was good. The first elimination round of final 8 was also good.
Top 8 Elimination
2號 陳懿德 Rachel Chan and 3號 陳聖瑜 Yvette Chan got it first. Then, 13號 王嘉慧 Cathy Wong and 15號 梁凱晴 Carina Leung. Later, we have all 3 contestants qualifying 8號 宋宛穎 Sabina Mendes, 14號 邵初 Kristy Shaw and 4號 關楓馨 Fabienne Kwan. Kristy Shaw already got Miss Friendship. Getting into the top 8 is a bonus. She probably expects to be eliminated when facing Sabina and Fabienne. Lastly, we have 10號 楊培琳 Penny Yeung.
Top 5 Elimination
The first who got in was 4號 關楓馨 Fabienne Kwan. Then, 14號 邵初 Kristy Shaw. Things get a little heated up. Nobody expects her to get into the top 5 occupying a critical spot. Then, 15號 梁凱晴 Carina Leung. We heard loud cheers. Yesssss! But then, we are back to the tense moment. Next was 8號 宋宛穎 Sabina Mendes, as expected. Now, the last one. We have 2號 陳懿德 Rachel Chan, 3號 陳聖瑜 Yvette Chan, 13號 王嘉慧 Cathy Wong and 10號 楊培琳 Penny Yeung. Who has been the heavy favorite since day one? 3號 陳聖瑜 Yvette Chan? What a disappointment. It goes to 13號 王嘉慧 Cathy Wong! Sad day for fans of 3號 陳聖瑜 Yvette Chan.
Now, 14號 邵初 Kristy Shaw officially receives her Miss Friendship 友誼小姐 title. Next, is the critical Miss Photogenic 最上鏡小姐. Traditionally, Miss Photogenic is from the top 5 and has a very high chance of advancing to top 3 or even becoming the champion.
We have 4號 關楓馨 Fabienne Kwan, 8號 宋宛穎 Sabina Mendes, 13號 王嘉慧 Cathy Wong, 14號 邵初 Kristy Shaw, and 15號 梁凱晴 Carina Leung. By the looks, 梁凱晴 Carina Leung has the highest chance, followed by 關楓馨 Fabienne Kwan. But, the winner was 10號 楊培琳 Penny Yeung, who is not even in top 5.
Things get really confusing now. It is in a mess, really. Nobody really can predict who can win.
The second runner up was announced. It was a complete shock. 14號 邵初 Kristy Shaw! Again? Advancing into second runner up? 4號 關楓馨 Fabienne Kwan, 8號 宋宛穎 Sabina Mendes, 13號 王嘉慧 Cathy Wong, and 15號 梁凱晴 Carina Leung was heavy favorite, but the first spot was taken by someone else.
As a supporter of 15號 梁凱晴 Carina Leung, I would have been very happy when she was not named the second runner up. She is definitely a top 3 material. This would mean she can move up to be a winner. If the second runner up is 4號 關楓馨 Fabienne Kwan or 8號 宋宛穎 Sabina Mendes, it is a good news for her. But no.
I hope 15號 梁凱晴 Carina Leung can be in a safe position. It was too unpredictable. I hope she gets the first runner up and is done with it. I cheered so hard when she got it!
Imagine if 4號 關楓馨 Fabienne Kwan or 8號 宋宛穎 Sabina Mendes gets the 1st runner up, 15號 梁凱晴 Carina Leung would need to face either one of them. Too stressful.
Anyway, my hope would have been –
15號 梁凱晴 Carina Leung – Winner
4號 關楓馨 Fabienne Kwan – First Runner Up
8號 宋宛穎 Sabina Mendes – Second Runner Up
Both are gorgeous. A switch would be nice too.
